The six panels that make up this painting investigate depictions of everyday furniture objects in the context of seismic events. In the event of an earthquake a table undergoes an instantaneous transformation from work surface to ad-hoc shelter. This dichotomy of role and function was interrogated with the support of content borrowed from the Tokyo Bosai manual for disaster preparedness within a general context of Japan.
